utrwd watering schedule

Corinth, TX, June 13, 2024 – Upper Trinity Regional Water District (UTRWD) has taken proactive measures to ensure sustainable water usage for their customers, by implementing permanent water conservation requirements. As a member of UTRWD, the City of Corinth was required to adopt these requirements and is encouraging residents to limit outdoor watering to no more than two days per week.

Being Corinth’s primary water source, UTRWD emphasizes the importance of adhering to these restrictions, which align with the Drought Contingency Plans and Water Conservation Plans set forth by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). By complying with these regulations, residents play a crucial role in conserving water and preserving the community's water resources.

Conservation Plan Requirements

  • Maximum two days per week watering of landscape irrigation systems and hose-end sprinklers based on the following zones.
    • Zone 1 -  Monday, Thursday
    • Zone 2 -  Tuesday, Friday
    • Zone 3 -  Wednesday, Saturday
  • Irrigation of landscape areas and building foundations is permitted at any time if by means of hand-held hose, drip irritation or soaker hose systems.
  • No outdoor watering with automatic irrigation systems and hose-end sprinklers between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to minimize water loss due to evaporation.

Other Conservation Tips

  • Stay Informed: Sign up for weekly watering tips through services like Water My Yard, which provides personalized recommendations on when and how much to water your yard.
  • Maintain Your Sprinklers: Regularly check and update your sprinkler system to ensure efficient water distribution, including fixing leaks and adjusting spray patterns.
  • Adapt to Weather Conditions: Turn off sprinklers during rainy or windy weather to prevent water wastage.
  • Implement Efficient Irrigation Practices: Utilize techniques such as cycle and soak watering to allow for better absorption and consider installing smart controllers that adjust watering schedules based on weather forecasts and restrictions.
  • Upgrade to Efficient Systems: Install multi-stream and drip irrigation systems for improved water efficiency, particularly in flower beds, young trees, and the home’s foundation.
  • Plant Smart: Choose native Texas plants that require less water and group them according to their water needs. Additionally, use compost and mulch to retain moisture in the soil.

By embracing these practices, residents can contribute to water conservation efforts and ensure the sustainable management of water resources for future generations.
