Citizens Public Safety Academy
The Citizens Public Safety Academy, or CPSA, is a 13-week program designed to open the lines of communication between Corinth Police Department, the Lake Cities Fire Department and the community. It is the sincere desire of the Police Department to develop a style of public safety that reflects a collaborative effort between community and police and fire departments. This process requires an informed citizenry and it is the goal of the CPSA to increase understanding through education.
Meetings and Eligibility
Classes are held one night a week for 13 weeks and are conducted at no cost to the participants. Anyone at least 18 years old who resides or works in any of the Lake Cities (Corinth, Shady Shores, Hickory Creek or Lake Dallas) is eligible to attend the Citizens Public Safety Academy provided they meet the basic criteria outlined in the application.
Curriculum
Corinth Police Department: The curriculum is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the operational dynamics of the Corinth Police Department and the critical role of citizens play in our community crime control efforts. We believe that policing by partnership is essential for effective law enforcement.
- The CPSA will cover various topics related to law enforcement and include family law. Arrest search and seizure, evidence procedures, criminal investigations, traffic, and identity theft.
- The CPSA instructional segments are taught from members of the Corinth Police Department and from outside agencies as well.
- The instruction includes hands-on demonstrations and scenario based learning.
Lake Cities Fire Department: This free educational program provides citizens with an inside look at the Fire Department, plus hands-on experience in emergency operations. You'll even get to 'ride out' on emergency calls with firefighters! Join us - and learn more about the services your Fire Department offers while increasing your fire and life safety awareness.
- Academy highlights include classes about the type of rescue tools such as hydraulic cutters, spreaders and rams, air bags, and other special equipment that firefighters use in rescue situations. To simulate such an event, class participants will have the opportunity to use the rescue tools to cut apart a vehicle in a simulation of a vehicle extrication.
- Students will experience firefighter life inside a training building as they dress in bunker gear and walk through a training fire, the same building that firefighters use to perfect their firefighting techniques.
- All activities will be overseen by our firefighters.
