UPPER TRINITY ENACTS STAGE ONE DROUGHT WATERING RESTRICTIONS

drought restrictions

CORINTH, TX, July 1, 2022- As excessive heat continues, Upper Trinity Regional Water District (UTRWD) implemented Stage 1 of their Drought Contingency Plans due to the above average temperatures and high-water demand. As  Corinth’s main water source, residents are asked to comply with UTRWD requirements for Drought Contingency Plans and Water Conservation Plans promulgated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

“Although Upper Trinity’s local water supply reservoirs (Lewisville, Ray Roberts and Chapman lakes) are relatively full, water levels are beginning to drop. The unusual high water demand, particularly for outdoor watering, is approaching levels that may affect Upper Trinity’s capacity to deliver water to all Customers,” said Larry N. Patterson, Executive Director of Upper Trinity Regional Water District. “By initiating Stage 1, Upper Trinity’s goal is to achieve a 5% reduction in water use throughout the summer.”

Effective immediately, residents are to limit outdoor watering with automatic systems or hose-end sprinklers to no more than two times per week.  Additionally, outdoor watering with automatic irrigations systems or hose-end sprinklers is prohibited from 10am to 6pm.   Residents are also being asked to comply with the following conservation efforts.

  • Check your home’s irrigation system for leaks.
  • Reduce the frequency of draining and refilling swimming pools.
  • No filling or refilling of ornamental fountains and ponds.
  • No hosing off paved areas, building, windows, or other hard surfaces
  • Don’t leave sprinklers unattended.
  • Restrict washing of any more vehicle to the use of a hand-held bucket or a hand-held hose equipped with a positive shut-off nozzle for quick rinses.
