DO YOUR PART AND WATER LESS Y'ALL!

CORINTH, TX, November 22, 2022 –Forecasters are predicting warmer and drier conditions for Texas this winter. So even with the recent rain, the parched soils absorb the water and very little, if any, water runs off into the creeks and streams that fill the lakes. Jim Chapman Lake is approximately 65% full and Lewisville Lake is down by 21%.

So, what does this mean for Corinth and the more than 400,000 people across Denton and Collin counties that Upper Trinity Regional Water District serve? Upper Trinity is asking residents to turn off their sprinklers until next spring. Lawns and plants are nearing dormancy and need very little water to make it through the winter. Given the dry weather forecast for winter, reducing water use in yards and inside homes will help prevent lakes from dropping significantly more. Residents are also being asked to comply with the following conservation efforts.

  1. Check your home’s irrigation system for leaks.
  2. Refrain from draining and refilling swimming pools.
  3. No filling or refilling of ornamental fountains and ponds.
  4. No hosing off paved areas, building, windows, or other hard surfaces
  5. Restrict washing of any more vehicle to the use of a hand-held bucket or a hand-held hose equipped with a positive shut-off nozzle for quick rinses.

The City of Corinth is also doing its part to reduce water usage by continuing intensified leak detection, repair activities on waterlines, shutting off irrigation to nongame fields, parks, medians and green spaces. The City will also reduce water to all game fields.

The ongoing drought places the Upper Trinity Regional Water District’s main water supply lakes at risk and could negatively impact drinking water supplies and water recreation next summer if lake levels continue to drop. We need your help to prevent lakes from dropping significantly more, so please join us in “Watering Less Y'all.”
