2023 WYLAND NATIONAL MAYOR'S CHALLENGE FOR WATER CONSERVATION

wyland national mayors challenge 2023

CORINTH, TX, March 30, 2023- It’s time again for the Wyland National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation! Corinth is participating in the fifth year running! Now more than ever, water conservation is a priority for the City as droughts and rising costs become more widespread.

“As a leader committed to efficient use of natural resources, I support the mission of the Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation, a non-profit national community service program, and in so doing renew my commitment to sustainability for future generations,” said Mayor Bill Heidemann.

Last year, residents from over 2,000 cities in all fifty U.S. states pledged to reduce their annual consumption of freshwater by over one billion gallons, reduce waste sent to landfills by thirty-five million pounds, and prevent nearly one hundred thousand pounds of hazardous waste from entering our watersheds. The challenge goes beyond short-term issues and looks at the ways our water use will affect the future of our communities — from how we manage our coasts, lakes, and rivers to reducing polluted runoff.

The community with the highest percentage of residents participating in their population category wins. Among communities of similar size, Corinth finished twenty-third overall in 2022. The City hopes to rank even higher this year.

Being part of the Mayor’s Challenge promotes efficient water usage, and helps residents make a long-term commitment to reduce pollution and manage water resources more wisely. Participating also gives residents the chance to win over $50,000 in eco-friendly prizes, including $3,000 toward their home Utility Payments, water-saving fixtures, and hundreds of other prizes.

The Mayor’s Challenge is sponsored by the Wyland Foundation. To register, residents should go to www.mywaterpledge.com.
